Preparation instructions
Do not eat or drink, and avoid caffeine and smoking for four hours before the examination unless the clinic gives you different instructions. Inform us if you may be pregnant, and provide information about your medical conditions and current medications.
A simple, non-invasive scan that shows whether calcified plaque is present in the coronary arteries.
A CT calcium score measures the amount of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries, the vessels that supply blood to the heart muscle.
The result is given as a calcium score. A score of zero means that no calcified plaque was detected, while higher scores indicate a greater amount of calcification and may be associated with higher cardiovascular risk.
The result is interpreted together with your age, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, medical history and other risk factors. It can help your physician decide whether preventive measures or further assessment should be considered.
